Doña Marta works near the Casa Amarilla. She guards cars that are parked along the street.
“I have been working in this same spot near this building for 18 years. I guard cars and sell revenue stamps.
My work is rather hard for me. I need to work a lot to gain even just a little bit of money. It’s getting harder for me also because I am getting older and I’m diabetic. I have been thinking of doing something else, because one doesn’t really earn any money here. Only way to earn something more is to work here during the nights… But that’s not possible for me anymore. I’m too old for spending time on the streets during the night. I don’t think it would be easy to find anything else either because I’m ageing.
I love San Jose. There is nothing that I would change. Nothing that I would want to make better either. I like all the places in this city. There is really nothing that I would want to change. I was born here and I’m going to stay in this city until I die.”
